Mining a coin does not create tax by itself. Tax arises when the coin is sold or exchanged. For an individual this is other income under § 8 of the Income Tax Act, for an entrepreneur or an s.r.o. it is business income. The difference lies in the rate, in health contributions and in which mining costs can be claimed.
In practice: a miner who only accumulates for years declares nothing. At the first sale, however, he needs to know which coins were sold and which costs belong to them. These records cannot be reliably rebuilt later, so it pays to keep them from the start.
The same mining operation is taxed very differently for an individual and for a company. These are the main differences for the 2026 tax year.
| Individual (§ 8) | s.r.o. | |
|---|---|---|
| When it is taxed | on sale or exchange of a mined coin | on sale or exchange of a mined coin |
| Expenses | actual costs of the mined coins, such as electricity, capped at the income | business costs including electricity, hosting and depreciation of equipment under the Income Tax Act |
| Tax rate | 19%, 25%, 30% or 35% depending on the total tax base | 10% on taxable income up to €100,000, 21% above that |
| Health contributions | 16% of the tax base | not paid on company profit |
| Loss | expenses above income are disregarded and the loss cannot be carried forward | a tax loss can be deducted in later years under statutory conditions |
| Administration | type B tax return | double-entry bookkeeping, financial statements, corporate tax return |
| Money for you | yours after tax | paying out profit to the shareholder is taxed again as a dividend |
Which route costs less depends on the size of the profit, on whether you sell coins gradually or at once, and on the cost of bookkeeping. We model both options on your figures, not on estimates. See also the individual vs. s.r.o. comparison in the price list.
A miner who operates as an individual and wants to move into a company deals with two things: equipment and coins already mined.

No. Mined coins are taxed only in the year you sell them or exchange them for another crypto-asset, goods or a service.
Yes. For an individual, actual and evidenced costs of the mined coins, such as electricity, are deductible up to the income from the sale. They must be documented and matched to the coins sold.
An individual who mines alongside employment and does not hold the coins as business assets taxes the sale as other income under § 8. Someone mining as an entrepreneur taxes it as business income. At a larger scale it is worth comparing an s.r.o. as well.
Usually at higher profits, because of the 10% rate on income up to €100,000 and because a company pays no health contributions on its profit. The comparison must also include tax on paying out the profit and the cost of bookkeeping.
Only their sale is taxed. The mining costs can be claimed only if you can evidence them. If records are missing, it is important to know before you sell.
For an individual resident in Slovakia, income from the sale is taxed in Slovakia regardless of where the rigs are. For a company, VAT on the hosting service received from abroad also needs to be assessed.
